Lim, Remoto and others disqualified by COMELEC December 19, 2009

Once again, COMELEC proved to be a mere extension of this current administration’s office with all the irregularities now surrounding the commission’s every move relating to the coming 2010 polls. And now it is the disqualification of detained General Danny Lim being put to question as it is obviously baseless and unconstitutional.

Accordingly, there are three items on the checklist to determine whether a candidate is a nuisance or not: one- whether the person is making a mockery of the process; two-if the person is just going to cause confusion; and third-if he has not demonstrated the will to actually do the campaign.

COMELEC is lobbying on the fact that Lim is a nuisance candidate for the fact that he cannot wage a national campaign, thus making him impossible to win.

Indeed, the trend that only billionaires and celebrities have the capacity to run for a public office in this third world country is so chilling to watch as it progresses without shame. Wealth should never be the number one qualification determining the capacity of a candidate to uphold the office he or she is vying for neither his current stand nor criticisms of those who are in power, which is in the case of General Lim.

As with the case of Ang Ladlad’s Danton Remoto, COMELEC is standing firm in their stand of “machismo politicking.” And damn all gays and lesbians in this country if they weren’t really prejudiced in this decision.

The common denominator for Lim and Remoto is that both were a possible threat to many unworthy candidates that the reigning political party is pushing thru that is why they have o resolve with this dirty tactics. This only proves the rotten system of this country’s electoral procedure that no wonder it only produces crap politicians.

Twitter hackers appears to be Shiite group December 19, 2009

(CNN) — The popular microblogging site Twitter was hacked briefly by a group calling itself the Iranian Cyber Army, but the site was quickly restored after the incident early Friday.

Those who tried to access Twitter were redirected to a site displaying a green flag and proclaiming, in English, “This site has been hacked by Iranian Cyber Army.” The group’s Web address was provided.

Arabic writing in blue said, “Hezbollah is victorious,” and a message on the flag said, “Ya Hussein,” referring to Prophet Mohammed’s grandson.

The United States and Israel categorize Hezbollah, a political party in Lebanon, as a terrorist organization.

“The group claiming responsibility for the Twitter hacking is previously unknown, but its symbols would be familiar to anyone looking at radical (Web) sites,” said Octavia Nasr, CNN’s senior editor for Middle East affairs.

“The hackers are definitely Shiites, as indicated by the ‘Ya Hussein’ chant printed on their banner,” she said.

“The group also uses Arabic in their text, a clear indication of collaboration with Arabic groups. Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shiite militia with ideological, political and military ties to Iran. The same name is also used by a group inside Iran.”

Twitter posted a message about 2:30 a.m. ET Friday on its official Twitter page, saying, “Twitter’s DNS (domain name system) records were temporarily compromised but have now been fixed.”

“In the past few years, we’ve been seeing a rise in desire for hacking by insurgents and terrorist groups,” said Nasr. Not only do they hack outside sites, but they hack each other’s, she said. “The idea of ‘cyber terrorism’ and ‘cyber insurgency’ has been manifested in many ways — (with) hacking individual sites being the most infamous.”

She added, “This week’s (revelation of) successful hacking of U.S. predator drone feeds by Iranian-backed Shiite militants adds another level of sophistication toward the hacking effort.”

Twitter became unwittingly involved in Iranian politics last summer.

When Iran’s disputed presidential election spiraled into bloody protests, the opposition used Twitter and other social networking sites to inform the world.

Protesters beamed images from the violent demonstrations at a time when mainstream media were given almost no access to the demonstrations.

Twitter became so fundamental in spreading news of the protests that the U.S. State Department asked the company to delay a planned shutdown for maintenance.

Pope John Paul II is closer to Sainthood December 19, 2009

Catholic’s most beloved shepherd, His Holiness, the late Pope John Paul II is finally a step closer to Sainthood with predecessor Pope Benedict XVI set to sign a decree declaring him “venerable,” reports from Diocese of Rome press says.

Like in the case of now Beatified Mother Theresa of Calcutta, the process of the late Pontiff’s sainthood breaks the usual tradition in the Catholic Church to allow 5 years after death of an individual before entering into the process of beatification.

As we all know, the Catholic Church’s mandated procedure regarding Sainthood is very intricate in order to avoid defects and misunderstanding. However in cases like this, personally, we don’t have to wait anymore for a “big time” miracle that would prove this Man a saint indeed. The marks that Pope John Paul II left in the hearts of not only the Catholic populace, but even non-Catholic (even non Christian) people is so awesome, he brought us together disregarding one’s color, religious and political affiliations; he looked at us as a grand mankind with a oneness like a real father to everyone.

Saint or not, his Pontificate will always remind us the teachings he imbibed among us, in accepting and loving one another, seeing the face of God in everyone; and that is where his greatness comes, proof that he is indeed a holy man.

sure the chorale piece SIMBANG GABI by Maestro Lucio San Pedro perfectly resonates Filipinos passion in celebrating the coming of Christ as an infant in a humble manger 2000 years ago.

alone in the entire Christendom, the Philippines is granted permission from the Vatican to continue excercise this tradition of love and thanksgiving.

here in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Malolos, the traditional Simbang Gabi, in its first day, is being held at the Patio (open area) to accommodate large crowd of church goers.

His Eminence Jose Francisco Oliveros D.D., bishop of Malolos lead the holy mass concelebrated by Cathedral-Basilica Minore of the Immaculate Concepcion’s Parish Team Ministry. in his homily, he stressed the priests significance in fulfilling Christ’s mission and ministry.

God Bless our country. Merry Christmas!

In one of the many historic “firsts” Gloria Arroyo did and is still doing, it seemed she doesn’t  have the courtesy at all to face her people with all the uncertainties the country is presently facing; the president is missing in action!

After her widely proclaimed intention of running as Pampanga’s 2nd district representative, she’s probably hiding under her bed, avoiding numerous questions, the biggest being her move placing Maguindanao under martial law.

In yesterday’s joint congressional session (suspended till 2pm today) called to discuss Proclamation 1959, lawmakers especially Rep. Didagen Dilangalen and and Rep. Simeon Datumanong both from Maguindanao, stressed the president’s significant presence in the session.

Well, I think that’s definitely logical since she’s the one who directed martial law, therefore she has to explain the implications of her move in order to iron out the legalities questioned by many of her critics. But why is it that up to now, she hasn’t exposed herself explaining to the public? Even in the formal declaration of Proclamation 1959, she hasn’t got the guts to do it herself. And more importantly, why is it that the report 48 hours after martial law’s declaration required by the constitution is not signed by her; instead it was her executive secretary Eduardo Ermita who did the job? Where is that “oh proud and haughty” Gloria Macapagal Arroyo?

Being the commander in chief, we definitely have all the rights to demand on her presence in this action. If she’s right afterall, then she shouldn’t hide her face from us and directly address every citizen of this country as the president. So again, where is the president?

We sure have lots of stories.
Some are shared.
Others erased.
We did had fun laughing
Cases we’re close to crying.

But the best stories I have
Those stories that we had
The one that was told
In the silence of our thoughts.

So I want you to close those eyes
As I whisper in the silence of our hearts
While I narrate this silent story
Of our friendship in… .. .

Deus est inter nos!

while a lot of people (including me) prophecized him to be the next champion of x-factor, danyl johnson finally take his final vow at the reality show’s stage, bidding goodbye to many of his supporters including mentor simon cowell.

personally, it was shocking to me though at the back of my mind, i knew it was surely coming. it is probably the reality that your stiffest competition would be yourself.

after earning standing ovation (from the audience and some of the judges) including simon’s commentary  naming his audition piece one of the best he’s ever seen, he failed grabbing the slot to make it to the finals.

He said: “I’m obviously really gutted because we get this far in the competition and you’re one space away

from being in the final and then you’ve got to go home.

anyway, the real competition starts after the competition, you get it? there’s a huge chance that he’ll make it to recording like what simon hinted saying, “watch this space.”

Series of Massacres December 8, 2009

November 23, the world bore witness in a gruesome murder of no less than 57 people in Maguindanao. As corpses were found buried along with vehicles, remarks of brutal killings came evident. With the Ampatuan clan as prime suspects, known to be allied with Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, people feared for justice to be definitely out of the picture.

November 30, Malacanang proudly announced that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is finally giving in to what she said as “wide clamor of people” calling her not to retire from public service. The president after her term is running for a seat in the Lower House as representative of the 2nd district of Pampanga.

December 1, deadline of submission of certificate of candidacy, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo tripped to Pampanga’s local COMELEC office filing her own COC followed by a mass officiated by not less than 28 clergymen, calling the president “Jesus-like” in its homily.

December 5, Saturday morning, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita announced Proclamation No. 1959 with President Gloria Arroyo “declaring a state of martial law and suspending the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in the province of Maguindanao, except for certain areas identified as bailiwicks of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) separatists.”

Are we really doomed to be placed in what our  Chinese brothers described as “interesting times?” Not so long that many of our fellow Filipinos suffered the wrath of Bagyong Ondoy, Pepeng and the rest of their friends and yet the future of our country is looking grim.

In each day that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is sitting there in throne of presidency, massacres are continously taking place. Massacre of the Constitution. Massacre of sensibilities and values. Massacre of the law of God and mankind. And sadly, literal massacre of men.

How long must we submit to this kind of scenario? I do not know. How long can Gloria Macapagal Arroyo sustain her political power? That is uncertain. But probably, it all depends on us all. Hopefully..

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday declared Roberto Pagdanganan as the real winner in the May 2007 gubernatorial race in Bulacan.

This after a revision of votes showed that Pagdanganan garnered 342, 295 votes, beating incumbent mayor Joselito Mendoza with a margin of 4,321 votes.

The Comelec second division headed by Nicodemo Ferrer ordered that 20,236 votes be deducted from Mendoza after a review of the ballots for spurious marks and possible misappreciation of handwriting.

The poll body directed Mendoza to vacate the office and turn it over peacefully to Pagdanganan, who hailed the decision as a “historical vindication.”

“I welcome this decision,” said Pagdanganan. “I thought this day would never come. This is a historical vindication.”

Although he would only serve as Bulacan governor for only five months starting December 1, he said he would make the most of it to serve his constituents.

The new governor added that he would file his bid Tuesday afternoon as representative of the first district of Bulacan.

Remoto aims for Senate December 2, 2009

After COMELEC’s decision of disqualifying Ang Ladlad as a legit partylist, the group’s leader Danton Remoto filed his certificate of candidacy yesterday seeking a seat for Congress’ Upper House – the Senate.

In his statement he said, “I filed my candidacy because we need to inaugurate a new moon in Philippine politics. Kailangan natin ‘yung hindi trapo at hindi dinastiyang politika.”

Taking this huge step would actually provide better platform for Remoto and Ang Ladlad’s vision. Boasting of four million LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders) Filipino voters, Remoto would still be in need of backing especially that he’s running as an independent candidate. National campaign is still a no joke and financial capacity would always be the question. However, if the said large sum of LGBT community would unite in pushing for Remoto’s candidacy, then victory would definitely be clearly possible.

Like they say, why would you try to fit in if you’re destined to stand out? If a seat in the House of Representative is impossible then why not go for extra mile? I personally encourage everyone in supporting Danton Remoto’s goal of a seante seat. Not only the LGBT community would benefit in his success but everyone who despise traditional politics as well as dirty playing politicians. Afterall, he’s got more balls than most of our “so-called” straight senators put up together. And mind you, he might even convince some in coming out of their closet. Just kidding!
